Survivor 8: Episode 7 Summentary

The first big strategic crossroads is here.

But before that, let's take a peek into the Dang Fun inbox for this:

I'm 10 years old, my name is Bryan and Survivor is my favorite show in the whole world. Big Tom and Rupert are the best and funniest guys ever if you could tell them that for me I would be so happy. Thank you.

Hello, Bryan. I'm just a fan like you so I don't have contact with the cast members but I agree 100% that Tom and Rupert are great guys to watch. Thanks for reading, my good man.

Day 19 begins with Mogo Mogo. Shii Ann and Kathy are complaining about Jerri's complaining. I knew these women couldn't stick together. Shii says, "I know every single thought in her brain because it's coming out of her mouth," and Kathy calls Jerri "the annoying seed." Colby says she hasn't changed at all since Australia but it doesn't bother him because he knows she's not going to win the game.

Chapera gets a puzzle in the mail that says the day's Challenge will be for Immunity. I guess Sue screwed up the schedule.

I think they like the Reward.

The tribes will have to swim from a platform one at a time to retrieve big floating puzzle pieces. When put together, the pieces form a sort of raft that will have to be paddled back to shore. One person from each team runs into the jungle to retrieve two more paddles, and the first tribe to get their raft back to the starting point wins.

Jeff then raises the stakes. The winners will also be rewarded with a big barbeque and dessert. Double bonus: The winners will also choose one person from the losing tribe to join them at the feast. The chosen one will not be at Tribal Council that night.

Rob gives Chapera an early lead by running to the end of the platform before diving while Jerri immediately jumps into the water. Later, Jenna bumps her head on her piece which is always funny.

Chapera is the first to collect their six pieces but its close. Mogo passes them and is first with the completed raft. They have to slide some slats in to hold it together. Ethan tries to hammer one in with a paddle and breaks the paddle. Oops.

Mogo still is first to shove off, and they're first to shore. Ethan is the runner with Rob chasing him but well behind. Rob looks exhausted.

Mogo Mogo gets their hopes up.

But Ethan can't get the oars untied! Rob is the first one back to the raft. He must have cut the rope because his oars are still together. It's neck and neck as they paddle, but Mogo can't steer! Chapera wins Reward/Immunity/an extra player for the day!

Chapera chooses Kathy and learn their bbq will be on a huge yacht. This is one of the best team Rewards ever.

Kathy says at first she was upset when she got picked because she didn't want to look bad in front of her tribe, but that quickly went away when she got on the boat. The Chaperas are dancing fools. Tom says, "I ain't ever seen a boat like that. It reminded me of the fanciest house trailer you ever seen…float." Believe me, this was a just a bit better than some trailer.

They partake of a huge spread of burgers, hot dogs and more. Kathy says she feels welcome and knows they'll want her to switch sides after the merge. She doesn't seem opposed to the idea. Tom leads the group in a "Kat" chant.

At Mogo Mogo, Ethan apologies for losing the Challenge. He's worried about going home again. The poor guy's going to lose his flowing locks with all this stress.

Chapera's boat comes ashore and they walk up to a big dessert table. Jenna absolutely pigs out and has food all over her face. After eating, some of them jump off a waterfall into a pool. That can't be safe.

Kathy says Chapera is having a lot more fun than Mogo. She says the timing of a switch will be tricky. Sounds like a done deal to me.

Jerri continues to annoy Shii Ann. They snap at each other during cooking. Ethan is glad that, once again, attention seems to be off him. Colby says both women annoy him the same.

Kathy makes new friends.

Back on the Love Boat and drink orders are placed with the staff. What's next? Hitting golf balls into the ocean of course. Who needs environmental laws? Rob slips and falls on his butt and later accidentally tosses the club into the water.

Now resting with the other ladies, Kathy opens up about her tribe, including the voting alliances thus far! She says she's in with Lex and Shii Ann. I guess she has no choice but to defect now. Tom says, "Kathy fell in a trap. We got the girls up there numbin' her up." And numb she is.

The scramble at Mogo begins. Colby and Ethan say they should vote off Jerri. Colby says he already has his farewell speech written for her. Lex says he's in but, remember, Jerri's his new stooge. He takes her for a walk…and tells her the plan to vote her out! He says the new plan is to turn on Colby because they don't want him around after the merge. Jerri says it was her goal to last longer than Colby.

Lex approaches Shii Ann for the final vote needed for a majority but she's not sure she wants to keep Jerri around.

Sun is setting on the boat and Rupert is napping. Tom dances with Kathy and Champaign is brought out. They try to say a toast but Tom has already chugged his drink.

Lex is confident his plan will work. Colby says it should be a 4-1 vote against Jerri but he knows this is a "game of curveballs."

To Tribal we go and Colby says they're not looking forward to living with Chapera. Both he and Ethan mention Rob as someone they don't like losing to.

Jerri says she's voting for her biggest threat. Colby interrupts her and says he disagrees with that strategy because they need to keep the tribe strong so they don't lose any more people.

Jeff asks Shii Ann whom they physically can most afford to lose and she says herself and Jerri. "We're physically possibly the weakest tribe members here. I'm sorry, Jerri, to speak for you." "Yeah, please don't," Jerri retorts. She's in rare form today. To add to it, when Jeff asks why they should keep her around, Jerri lists a number of strengths including strategizing and being positive. Is she serious?

Shii Ann says Colby is the strongest member. He's not happy to hear that because he wonders if they see him as someone who needs to be eliminated quickly.

They vote. Ethan writes Jerri and calls her two-faced. Lex votes Colby. Colby votes Jerri and says nothing. Ha ha, too angry for that speech I guess. Jerri returns the vote and says it's revenge.

"Wanna buy some
shaving equipment?"

Shii Ann's vote is hidden but we hear her say, "You have underestimated my powers. Perhaps you should spend some time analyzing your own." Could go either way. Let's hope it's Jerri.

The tally reads: Colby, Colby (he's got to be concerned), Jerri and Jerri. And the final vote is for…Colby! The wicked witch wins this round.

Next week on…Survivor WEDNESDAY: Rob and Amber finally kiss! Each tribe will have to send an ambassador to the other tribe. And Rupert and Rob square off somehow as "alpha males"--"Aquaman" and the "city kid from Boston," according to Rob.

Interesting little episode. First, the whole thing took place in one day. Does the game still only last 39 days even with the extra people?

Unfortunately, we have yet another vote based entirely on the previous seasons. We gotta get to this merge quick.

So, Shii Ann had a big decision and she chose to get into bed with Jerri and Lex over Colby and Ethan. Considering Colby's comments about her this was probably her best move.

Lex, on the other hand, screwed up in my opinion. Your first order of business after the merge isn't to prevent someone from winning all the Immunities, it's to break up the other tribe. Lex's best move would've been to duplicate his Africa strategy and align himself with the two strongest guys and ride it out. You have to like Chapera's chances of widening their person advantage and then it won't matter who Lex has on his side. I think he pulled the trigger too quickly. We shall see.

Hopefully Colby did well enough to keep selling them razors.
