Survivor 8: Episode 5 Summentary

The following summentary contains bad jokes that may be inappropriate to for younger readers, older readers, and middle-aged readers.

How funny is it that they're busting out the disclaimers for Survivor? That's a lot, Janet and Justin.

Day 13 and we jump right into the reward challenge. Each tribe will have to make a raft for four out of the bamboo poles and rope they're given. Rupert is taking charge for Saboga again and Jerri isn't happy.

Rich thinks the Mogos should just use the bundles as-is. Colby says they have it extra tough because "this raft not only had to carry Lex and Kathy and I and a normal human being but it's got to carry 260 pounds of Hatch." They end up following Richard's advice and just tying the bundles together into one big ugly bundle.

Tom is drunk again at Chapera and harassing Alicia. "Nice rack, I mean raft," he says. Then he compliments their structure by saying, "That's the best-built thing since Alicia." Sue isn't pleased with Tom. So she pees on the raft while sitting on it. Yikes.

Challenge time. Chapera and Saboga have similar square-frame designs and then there's Mogo Mogo. Two people will paddle the raft to pick up a third, then fourth member. Then they paddled out further to get a flag and bring it all the way back to shore. The winner gets fish hooks and a fishing spear. The top two teams get a clue for a crate key. And here's the kicker: The last place team disappears. Jeff says the top two tribes will play "pick 'em" to split up the losers.

Tom and Shii Ann sit out. She always sits out.

Life at Hobo Junction.

Lex and Colby start for Mogo and quickly pull away. The other two are close, with Chapera slightly in front. They try to edit some drama but a wide shot shows Saboga way behind.

Mogo coasts to victory and starts talking about whom they want to pick before they even catch their breath. Richard wants Ethan so they can vote him off.

Saboga finishes last and ends their reign of terrible. Mogo does in fact pick Ethan first. Chapera picks Rupert. Jerri is the first female pick for Mogo, reuniting her with Colby. Jenna is last. Ha ha.

Colby says they picked Jerri because they figured she hadn't bonded with Ethan. Such sly ones.

At New Chapera, Jenna tells us she had "complete control" in Saboga. Whatever. You're in the big leagues, sister. Rupert rides the swing with glee. "Our camp was hobo junction. Theirs is the Taj Mahal."

The next day Mogo Mogo looks for their key and Jerri finds it. But they discover half their rice had gotten wet and is rotten. "I've run out of rice before," Colby says, "and the consequences aren't good." Remember, in the Outback they had to trade the roof of their shelter for more food. That was great.

Saboga's last float.

Ethan spears a fish and is very proud. Then Rich goes out and spears three fish including a huge one. Ethan is not so proud.

So says the screen. You've been warned.

Day 15 and the Immunity Tree-Mail arrives. Rich doesn't care if they lose. "We've got a lot of people to send home."

The Challenge is a balance-beam race to capture flags. There is a "battle bridge" over a pool of water in the middle just like in Thailand. Only two people from each tribe can be on the course at once and players have to go in order. If you fall off you go back to the start.

Richard gets the first flag but falls on the way back. Shii Ann falls into the water. Tom is first to bring a flag back safely, then Amber. Rob waits for a showdown with Ethan. Rob goes for the legs, wrestling style, and both fall. Rob hits the water first but Ethan goes head-first into the wall. Ouch.

Rupert quickly falls. Who is this guy?

Richard faces off versus Jenna. As he pushes her off she pulls him in after her, but she hits the water first. Naturally, Rich then gets naked.

We're tied at three. Tom almost falls in but hangs onto the bridge. He ends up facing Ethan and both go in but Ethan hits first so Tom moves on.

Here comes the naughty part. Rich has to pass Sue and he intentionally rubs his junk against her, holding it there. Everyone gets grossed out and Jeff yells at him, "Guys, come on! Nobody cares about that stuff!" And we don't.

Meanwhile, Chapera has opened up a 17-13 lead with 20 as the goal. Rob squares off against Colby. East Coast vs. West Coast, Jeff says. Pac and Biggie are not amused. Rob goes low again and this time succeeds in picking up his man and driving him into the water. Rob continues to tear though the course and Sue gets the idea of falling off on purpose so he can go again sooner. Everyone else joins her and Rob is off again.

He meets Kathy in the middle and she sits on the beam for stability. He lowers himself to her level and throws her off. Rob brings home the final flag for Immunity. Man, the guy is dominating this season. Hunter must absolutely hate him.

Rob was the Flag Man.

Back at camp Rob brags that he's tougher than everyone. "Colby? Yeah. He's not as tough as you think, ladies."

Mogo Mogo prepares for their first Tribal Council by getting the backstabbing started early. Colby tells Ethan that Rich wants him off, calling Rich a "cancer." Colby and Lex then approach Jerri about offing Rich. Jerri agrees to do it but tells us she's not sure if she should team up with three strong guys.

Lex tells Kathy about the plan and she wonders why it changed from Ethan. She and Shii (hee hee) worry about Colby calling all the shots. Jerri tells Kathy she wants Colby out, then confirms to us that it's just for revenge. Another person with years of bitterness.

Jerri betrays the rebels' by going to Rich. He agrees to vote for Colby. "So they blew it," he says. "How dare you approach somebody to get rid of me? You must go bye-bye now. So, Colby has to go home."

The snake talks with Kathy. She knows she's the swing vote, but isn't sure what she's going to do.

They go to the Council and Colby says you can't coast in a game like this but a lot of people are doing it anyway. He later says his vote is "cutting out the cancer."

Rich votes for Colby and says, "You really could've trusted me. I was on your side. I know that's hard to believe but it's true!"

Colby votes for Rich and says, "You almost had me convinced I could trust you."

Rich go bye-bye.

Jeff tallies and it goes Colby, then Rich, Rich and Rich. Should be two more for Colby. No! Rich again and he's gone! "I've been bamboozled!" he shouts.

The King is dead!

"Oops." Rich says in his final words. "How much fun is Survivor?!"

Next week on…this fun show: Colby scolds Shii Ann for not making decisions, and Sue yells at Jeff! "It wasn't 'sorta,' Jeff! I was humiliated and totally spent, Jeff!" I'm not sure of those last two words but I do know this is the angriest anyone's ever been at The Man. Should be fun.

How are we going to survive without Richard Hatch?? All I gotta say is Ethan deserves some sort of prize just for being the last winner standing. Only five episodes in and we've already lost three of them. The sore losers are finally getting their balm.

Mogo Mogo looks like they have a clean male/female split, but how long will Colby, Lex and Ethan stick together? They'd be a pretty strong force if they did, I don't see how this game's greed allows for that kind of trust between powerful players.

And speaking of power, no one has more of it right now than the Robfather. Is Chapera going to let him continue to build momentum? Will girlies Jenna and Alicia side with Amber to give Rob a haremlliance? It seems pretty likely since there's no way Sue and Tom team up for anything.

The show has been kind of slow thus far, but I think now it may pick up. Wield them knives.
