Survivor 15
Episode 8

How many Immunities does one need?

It’s Night 21 at the new tribe, Hae Da Fung. There is no way I’m going to remember that name.

Jean-Robert is complaining about getting all those votes and James says, “You want a hug, baby?” The transformation of James this season has been remarkable. You started out with a quiet giant who was only comfortable with people after they died, and now you’ve got a 260-pound comedian.

We have a new opening title sequence that tells you who’s still alive and who’s on the jury so far and leaves out everyone else out. The singing snake is still included which makes me smile.

Day 22, and James marvels at how a tribe with people like a lunchlady, a pro gambler, and a “stewardess” have stayed together.

For the Reward Challenge they will split into two teams of four. One person from each group will sit in a small boat inside an enclosed square while the other three use buckets to throw water and try to sink the other team’s boat. First team to sink two battleships gets a meal in a thousand-year-old village.

JR and PG are chosen as captains, probably because their names are shortest. The picks go like this:

JR > James > Todd > Amanda
PG > Frosti > Erik > Courtney “because she’s light.”

Poor Denise has to sit out and isn’t eligible for the Reward. Courtney gets in the boat first for her team, and it doesn’t matter if you’re made of helium if you can’t keep your boat away from the buckets. She gets too close to the edge and is quickly swamped by James, JR, and Amanda.

For the next round the floaters are Amanda and Frosti. James’ bucketing power is too much to overcome and his team wins. Jeff gives them a clue tube to share.

As they walk into the village Amanda’s butt is blurred out. It must be too much for the locals to handle.

Jean-Robert reads the clues and is very excited about the Hidden Immunity Idol. Where has he been? Everyone else looks at each other and holds back laughter since they know James already has the Idols.

Back at Hey Da Funk, PG tries to get the five of them together against Jean-Robert. Denise says she’ll think about it but admits she’s going to do what’s best for her.

That night Jean-Robert sneaks out and looks for the HII. He pries off four plaques and decides to keep them, just like Jaime, the girl he mocked for doing the same thing.

Day 24, and Todd tells Amanda, and then Frosti, that they should blindside James because he’s got too much power. Frosti thoughtfully strokes his new mustache.

The Immunity Challenge involves a big dragon thing. A tunnel? No, just excessive decoration for a barrel-riding competition. Advantage: Thin people.

Sure enough, the four biggest people go out first: JR, Denise, James and Erik. PG and Amanda follow, leaving Frosti and Courtney. The Narrow One may not be able to keep her boat afloat but she can balance on a spinning barrel so she wins Immunity.

Back at Have Da Fungi, Jean-Robert tells Erik he found the Hidden Immunity Idol. Erik says he’s pretty sure JR is wrong, and proceeds to tell him he saw the Idols in James’ bag. JR believes him and now wants to turn on James.

Jean-Robert confronts James but James denies it and sticks to his lies. JR tells him he’s in big trouble if he breaks away from JR. Why, because of all the friends he has?

JR goes to Todd and says they should blindside James. But Todd apparently doesn’t like the idea any more now that JR thought of it so he tells James what JR is plotting. Amanda listens in but still wants PG out.

James isn’t sure if he should play an Immunity Idol or “roll the dice.”

At Tribal Council Jean-Robert says Erik and PG are in a bad position. Erik says people need to figure out if they’re going to be voted out in 5th or 6th place and make a move now.

Courtney votes for Jean-Robert, Denise votes for PG, and JR votes for James. This’ll be good.

Jeff begins to tally the votes and James does not play an Idol. The votes read: JR, JR, PG, James, James (2-2-1), James (oh no!), JR (3-3-1), JR…and JR again!!

Next time on…Survivor: People get on each others’ nerves and there’s a twist at Tribal Council.

Wow, James really dodged a bullet there. He needs to find the three or four people he thinks he can most trust and at least make them think he’s going to use the Idols to help them. Todd and Jean-Robert had the right idea in going after James. He is too powerful at this point, and will remain so as long as he has the Idols.

The old John Whos have a lot of life now. Fei Long has begun to turn on itself and, as Lorisa pointed out, you have to watch out for Denise. Will leaving her out of the decision to turn on Jean-Robert come back to haunt Todd’s squad?

Don’t Hate Dang Fung.
