Survivor 14 Episode 9

Loose lips sink horses too.

Day 22, and both tribes are instructed to meet on Exile Island. The boys of Ravu dub themselves “The 4 Horsemen” and make a pact to stick together to the end and target others to join them after the merge.

Sure enough, they find new buffs on the Isle of Exile and are very excited to learn they’ll all be living on Moto beach.

But when they get back to Moto, everything is gone! No more shelter, no more toiletries, not more furniture. Awesome. Finally it’s Survivor.

The new tribe name is Bula Bula which means Hello Hello in Fijian. Michelle and Stacy work together to make the new flag (which comes out quite nicely) and Stacy says the boys will start targeting each other, which is the standard m.o. post-merge.

Earl says he’s tight with Michelle, Cassandra, and Yau-Man. Boo says he’s not comfortable so he’ll be a “good little helper” for now and then “I’ll assume the leadership role again.” Again?

Dreamz and Mookie work on Cassandra and Yau-Man. The four of them want Boo out followed by Stacy. Stacy and Alex talk, and they also want Boo gone.

Mookie, Dreamz and Alex talk, and Mookie tells Dreamz they have the Idol!! Alex is understandably displeased. And Dreamz is understandably upset they didn’t tell him earlier. He tells the camera he now has a reason not to trust them.

Edgardo, Alex and Mookie fish and Edgardo is also mad at Mookie for failing to keep their secret. He says now Cassandra and Earl will find out.

Alex suggests pulling in Stacy as their fifth person, but Mookie realizes that she could be used to side with Alex and Edgardo against him and Dreamz.

Cassandra talks with Earl about bringing Dreamz in as their swing vote. Mookie tells Dreamz about the other 2 horsemen wanting to keep Stacy, and Dreamz agrees with Mookie that it would be bad news for them. Dreamz hasn’t forgotten how Stacy was rude to him at Moto.

Time for the Challenge, and the twists keep coming. They are randomly divided like this:

Green: Alex, Michelle, Stacy, Dreamz, Mookie
Orange: Edgardo, Cassandra, Boo, Earl, Yau-Man

The entire winning team gets Immunity! They won’t even be going to Tribal Council. Very interesting. Oh, and they get a steak feast.

The Challenge is memorizing a pattern and canoeing and pulling bags of puzzle pieces off a coil with a long stick. Yau-Man proves to be the master of all tools while the green team needs three people to get the first bag.

Green closes the gap but orange has the right (Yau) man do the puzzle and they win! Yau-Man is the oldest, skinniest, weakest guy to ever dominate Survivor.

In yet another twist, the lost tribe has to go straight to Tribal Council so they don’t get a chance to strategize! This is such a great episode.

Boo knows the Immunity saved him. At Tribal Council Jeff asks Dreamz for one reason to vote for Stacy and he says, “Because it ain’t me!” Jeff asks the same question to Michelle about Alex and she says because he’s a threat. He asks Alex the same question about each of the other four and he says he has no reason to vote for Stacy, he doesn’t know Michelle as well as the others, and he has no reason to vote for Mookie or Dreamz. That was pretty sly.

Alex votes for Michelle and Mookie votes for Stacy. Mookie does not play the Hidden Immunity Idol (dang, I was hoping he’d panic).

The tally reads: Stacy, Michelle, Stacy, Michelle and…Michelle! So the girls voted for each other and Dreamz was the final nail in Michelle’s coffin.

Next time on…Survivor: Mookie is mad at Dreamz for not following through on their discussion to vote out Stacy, and Dreamz tells Cassandra and Earl about Mookie’s Idol!!!

Oh man, the preview may have been the best part of a great night. A slew of twists, non-stop scheming, two power-duos fighting for position (the Al/Ed vs. Yau/Earl match-up we had hoped for), and one guy doing something really stupid.

What on earth was Mookie thinking? Once you decide to keep a secret from a guy it’s too late to be honest and keep his trust. You have to ride your lie to the end and hope he doesn’t catch on, because as soon as you tell him he’ll have the exact same response that Dreamz had: If I can trust you, why didn’t you tell me right away?

So even though Team Earl lost an ally in Michelle they are about to gain a huge bit of information and, presumably, the vote of Dreamz.

It’s interesting that both smaller alliances independently decided Boo should go first. Since he’s the only free agent in the game, shouldn’t you be making a play for his vote? With 9 people left Boo suddenly becomes very valuable, as long as he makes it clear that he’s ready to play ball and break a tie.

Game on.
