Can you double-cross double-crossers…twice?
Night 24, and Alex tells Mookie they should rotate the Idol amongst the four horses to prove their loyalty to each other. Mookie doesn’t like that idea and tells Dreamz about it. Dreamz says they should “recruit” a new alliance and Mookie says that won’t work because the others don’t trust them. Mookie gets mad at Dreamz for not voting off Stacy.
The next day Boo approaches Earl about forming a five-person alliance and says Alex’s group is full of backstabbers. Boo wants Alex out, but Earl doesn’t know if he can trust Boo…or Dreamz…or Mookie.
Next up is the Slander Challenge for Reward. They privately answer some loaded questions and will take turns eliminating each other every time they can correctly guess the majority’s answer to each question. The winner gets a night on a yacht.
This is the kind of episode that really tests my note-taking skills since there’s so much good information worth sharing. The Challenge goes like this:
Question 1: Who would you trust with your life? The correct answer is Earl. Cassandra, Boo, and Yau-Man eliminate Stacy.
2. Who are you least likely to invite to a family dinner? No dinner for Boo. Mookie, Dreamz and Alex eliminate Boo, and Cassandra breaks Alex’s first plank.
3. Who most has a sense of entitlement? Alex. Cassandra dings Alex again and Mookie knocks Earl.
4. Who would you most want with you if you were stranded on an island? Duh, Yau-Man. Everyone gets it right but Alex (even Yau would like to be stranded with himself). Among the many shots, Dreamz interestingly targets Alex, and Edgardo eliminates Earl.
5. Who would you like to not see again? Stacy. Every single person gets it right. Somewhere Panama Courtney has a flashback and weeps. In the flurry of hits Yau takes two shots and Cassandra eliminates Mookie.
6. Who smells the worst? It’s Dreamz, and he knows it. Yau-Man is eliminated by Cassandra.
7. Who mistakenly believes he/she is in control? Alex. Cassandra sends Edgardo to the sidelines.
8. Who is wasting this great opportunity? Stacy. Cassandra puts Dreamz on the brink of elimination.
9. Athletically, who has been the most surprising? Duh, Yah-Man. Cassandra wins! And she got every single question right. Wow.
Cassandra sends Mookie to Exile Island and gets to bring three additional people on her voyage, but she’s told not to decide until she’s back at camp.
Mookie pouts and says Cassandra “just made the worst mistake of her life.” He reads the clues and thinks Earl has the other Hidden Immunity Idol.
Cassandra chooses Dreamz, Boo and Yau-Man. Very savvy selections. Since she will be leaving enough people back at camp to form a voting majority she was wise to leave Earl behind to protect her.
Yau-Man goes to work on Boo and Dreamz on the yacht. They want Alex out. Cassandra thinks Dreamz is playing both sides.
Sure enough, Dreamz tells Alex the others are after him next. They talk about using the HII but Dreamz says Mookie is like Gollum and won’t give up his precious.
Dreamz then goes to talk to Earl and Cassandra. Earl is up front with him and says he’s hard to trust. Dreamz then drops his Mookie-has-the-Idol bomb and says it’s a turtle, so Earl knows what he’s talking about, but Earl acts surprised. Well played.
The Immunity Challenge is holding yourself up between two posts using only your arms and tiny standing pegs. Boo does surprisingly well and makes it to the final two but Yau-Man is the first individual winner. He talks a little trash and says he could’ve stayed up there another hour. Careful there, little big man.
Now the fun begins. Mookie tells Alex the order will be Earl, Yau-Man and Boo. Dreamz still doesn’t trust Stacy.
Yau-Man tells Stacy to vote for anyone but Earl, then suggests she vote for Alex. She says she doesn’t want to waste her vote but Yau says she wouldn’t be voting alone and Stacy agrees to do it to save herself.
Alex talks to Stacy next and asks if she’s on board with their plan to vote for Earl, but she doesn’t answer the question! She gives some excuse about it being hot. Edgardo says that means she’s not in. You think?
Edgardo tells Dreamz and Mookie they can’t trust Stacy so they should give the Idol to Alex to save him.
Mookie gives the Idol to Alex!
Dreamz sees him do it!!
Dreamz tells Earl’s group that Alex has the Idol!!!
Boo tells Earl, Cassandra, and Yau-Man they can trust the word of Dreamz.
Edgardo changes his mind and tells Alex and Mookie they should vote off Cassandra.
Stacy changes her mind and tells Boo, Yau-Man, Cassandra and Earl they should vote for Edgardo just in case the switch from Mookie to Alex is a trick. The five of them agree to not tell Dreamz about this new plan.
Dreamz tells Alex that Earl’s group doesn’t think Alex’s group has an Idol.
At Tribal Council Yau-Man says if they think someone has the Hidden Idol they have to avoid voting for him and then decide if they want to target his alliance’s head or one of his “soldiers.” That’s very honest and Yau is really starting to feel confident.
Dreamz votes for Mookie! Edgardo votes for Cassandra.
Alex plays the Idol!! Earl and Yau-Man smile. Mark Burnett starts doing back flips.
The tally - and facial expressions – go: Cassandra, Cassandra, Cassandra (Mookie smirks), Mookie, Edgardo (Alex and Edgardo’s faces drop), Edgardo (Yau-Man is beaming), Edgardo (Dreamz is shaking his head)…Edgardo!
Next time on…Survivor: Alex and Mookie confront Dreamz for turning on them, and Mookie goes through Yau-Man’s stuff and finds the other Hidden Immunity Idol!
That was beautiful. We had the Alex/Edgardo v. Earl/Yau showdown I was hoping for and the outcome was stunningly one-sided. Not only did Earl and Yau swing the majority vote, but they conned Alex into playing the Idol, and they used two of Alex’s allies (Stacy and Dreamz) to do it!
Then you had Dreamz trying to play both sides, choosing the correct side, and still ending up on the outside.
The only negative was the news that the Idol will be re-hidden with new clues. It would be a shame for Alex or Mookie to find it again after getting so thoroughly outplayed.
So Mookie sinks to out and out burglary to try and get back in the game. But will he be able to re-swing enough votes to do something with his stolen information?
Let’s hope next week gets here double-fast.
