Survivor 13: Episode 5

Pass the salt.

Day 12, and the Raro men wake up early and get to work. Pavarotti laughs because the men now know the women are in charge.

Over at Aitu it's just the opposite with the women sitting around checking out each other's armpit hair while the men work. Cowboy is annoyed by it, and I'm slightly grossed out.

For the Reward Challenge, the tribes divide into pairs and will each hold weight via a rope and pulley with one arm. The tribe that lasts the longest gets more fishing equipment, spices and wine.

Both sides put their strongest pair together. It doesn't work for I2 as Yul is the first to go out, taking Jonathan with him. Flicka does some taunting and backs it up as a member of the last pair for her tribe. But Nate and Adam's hugging technique works and they lead RR to victory. Jonathan is sent back to Exile Island.

The next day Adam brings home an octopus wrapped around his ankle. Cristina tells people how to cook everything and annoys Jenny. Cristina takes the chopped octopus down to the water and loses a bunch of it. She blames Jenny for leaving her alone. Say what now? Jenny tells us Cristina is the "new J.P."

Over at I2 Ozzy, Cowboy and Flicka want to explore a nearby island. They try and bring a fourth person with them but no one wants to be associated with them.

After they leave, Yul tells us his alliance with Jonathan, Becky and Candice is strong. He (finally) realizes he can't rely on Cowboy or Flicka so he approaches Sundra to be their fifth member. She says she'll vote with them.

The explorers find a medicinal plant. Ozzy flips off the camera to show us his cuts. I'm showing Ozzy my two cuts right now.

They follow a path and, sure enough, it leads to the other tribe's camp. Is that legal? As they walk up Sundra mutters that it's the three people they can't stand. Adam doesn't like it at all that they're invading their camp.

Pavarotti says Cowboy started talking about "symbology." They do some funny time-passing editing to show Cowboy doing what he does best. He ends his marathon chattering by asking them for some spices but they deny him. Seriously, you're allowed to go visit the other tribe whenever you want?

In Exile, Jonathan digs a hole big enough to "bury Yao Ming." He's now convinced the Idol is gone. At the Immunity Challenge the next day he tells Jeff, "I think I know where it was." We'll see if it comes into play that a guy in his alliance has it without him knowing it.

The Challenge is one of the best ones ever. Both the pole-walking and tower-standing are excellent tests of stamina and complete teamwork. I2 leads after the pole-assembling, but RR is in front after the pole-walking. It's very impressive that nobody fell off the poles during that segment.

RR makes up for it however by falling off the final platform as a group. I2 holds on to their final lead and wins!! Man, that was a great one.

Speaking of great ones, Ben the Numismatic Wizard writes in to tell us that the Immunity Idol is based on the Cook Islands fertility god that appears on local coins known as "dong dollars." I have no idea why they would be called that.

Ding Dong

Back at camp Jenny immediately rallies support to vote off Cristina. Nate tells Stephannie about it and she says she knows it'll be either Cristina or her. She adds that she could see herself eating some mashed potatoes and gravy soon.

Nate takes that to mean she wants out (again) and spreads the word to Brad, who tells Pavarotti, who talks to Stephannie. Stephannie says she doesn't want out after all.

At Tribal Council Brad gives a very politically correct answer about getting along with everyone. Nate on the other hand says Cristina is "overbearing." She says she didn't know others felt like that. Adam supports Nate and says he thought Cristina knew she was "that way." Come on, Cristina, you didn't think you were the most annoying person in the entire world? What's wrong with you?

Cristina and Stephannie vote for each other. The tally goes Cristina…then five straight Stephannies. They unanimously order her some gravy.

Next time on…Survivor: The inevitable Cristina backlash, Cowboy babbles about someone having super powers, and both tribes have to vote someone out.

What was Nate doing calling out Cristina when he knew they were voting for Stephannie? That's just asking for trouble. Unless he's being sly and intentionally splitting the women apart to save him and his homies.

Nah.
