Survivor: Palau Reunion

Time to get to the dirt behind Survivor: Palau. There was dirt, right?

Jeff just made Tom rich, and here comes the parade of losers in their "last time on TV" finest. Ian looks very sporty in his wristband.

Jeff gives the final scoreboard: Koror won 11 of 14 overall Challenges, and Tom won 5 of 7 individual ones. That means overall Tom was 16 of 21 (76%). Wow.

The Probst asks Gregg why he had such animosity toward Katie during the final Tribal Council. He says he was viewing everyone as just characters on the island. He says she did entertain him at camp and they were and are friends, and he feels bad for how he treated her.

Jeff asks Katie why she gave up on Janu's vote and she says there wasn't a vote to give up because Janu's mind was already made up, and Janu confirms it.

Jeff started to ask Katie about why she was surprised she was treated so poorly at the end but he got sidetracked by the Janu thing and never went back to it.

I hold Jeff with the highest of honor, but that's some funny-looking hair. Nice Hasselhoff wings.

Jeff, is that you?

Ian says he quit the final Challenge because he felt guilty about how he played and he doesn't regret it. See, I think he has it backwards. How he played was fine. The point is to try and win, and he wasn't going to beat Tom, so he SHOULD have turned on him at some point. My problem with Ian is that he was really bad at it. So many huge strategic blunders, starting with taking Tom on that Reward trip. Oh, and the Wuss of the Year performance with Katie.

Jeff gives more stats: 7 of the 10 winners have been at least 30. The average age of the champion is 34. He says this shows maturity is necessary to handle the stress of this game. Good work, Jeff. You're only 5 seasons too late. Virtual high five!

Can you name the three under-30 winners? Time to bring back the invisible ink! Highlight between the stars for the answer.
* Africa Ethan 27, Amazon Jenna 21, (and they were dating. Hmmm), and All-Star Amber 25). It's a trick question though, because Sandra was 29 when Season 7 started, but she was 30 by the time she won. *

At 41, Tom became the oldest winner ever, beating Outback Tina by one year. Oh, what the heck, here's the whole list:

Ian couldn't juggle
making friends and winning.

Tom 41
Chris 34
Amber 25
Sandra 29
Jenna 21
Brian 34
Vecepia 36
Ethan 27
Tina 40
Richard 39

Back to Palau. Jeff asks James if he got a lot of grief at work after the episode aired with him getting whupped by Coby. James says no, because he's been out of work for months. Oops.

Jeff tries to clear his name and asks Janu if he convinced her to quit. She says no. Jeff asks if anyone else there felt he did, and he looks around and quickly says "no one." The only problem is Coby raised his hand! I love you, Jeff, but I still believe you forgot your own strength that Tribal Council.

Jeff P. talks to Jeff Other about his "engineered quit." Jeff O. says he was just too hurt to continue and doesn't view it as quitting.

Jeff asks Jonathan about not even getting picked and he says it was because he jumped out of the boat early. Angie chimes in and says it was because he hadn't been nice to a few people those first couple days.

Wanda sings. I know you couldn't wait for that.

Before.

Stephenie says she gets lots of letters from fans. Bobby Jon says he was raised to work hard. Jolanda says she was first to go because she was on a young tribe that didn't listen, and Angie agrees they did poorly because they didn't listen to each other.

They list all the "firsts" from this season: 20 players, 2 people not even getting into game, 1 tribe winning every Immunity, a tribe of 1, no merge (that's a technicality. If Stephenie was a tribe of one, her "tribe" merged with Koror), most Tribal Council ties, longest Challenge ever, first Tribal Council at a Challenge.

The other thing I know you couldn't wait for: the couple updates. Jenn says she and Gregg are friends. Kim says she and Jeff O. are--gasp--friends.

Willard lied on the island and told everyone he was a mailman and not a lawyer.

Winner.

Here's the only surprise during the whole hour: Coby adopted a baby girl. And he named her Janu. She didn't even know! Lots of tears and hugs.

Next time on…Survivor: GUATEMALA! This September, 18 people will be living in actual Maya ruins. Unbelievable. "We want to set up TV cameras and trample all over your priceless national treasures. Here's some money."

So no controversy at all in the Reunion. The only thing I can think of that could have been discussed was Katie tying to break her alliance for three episodes then demonizing Ian when he tried it once. But Jeff probably thought she got her fair share during the final Tribal Council, which I suppose is true.

Don't forget, the Rob and Amber circus is this Tuesday! See you again soon!

Your ringleader,
Scott
