Breaking up is hard to do.
Day 31 and Tom continues to talk with Caryn. He says he can't leave his alliance of five, but she says it'd be smart to keep her and split up Gregg and Jenn. She's right.
As everyone prepares for the Reward Challenge Ian says he and Katie have a deal to take each other if they win the Reward.
It's the Rotu 4 Memorial Pecking Order Challenge. This season they pull levers to lower a burning lamp one notch. Three levers and your lamp is doused in the water.
The prize is a huge yacht! Oh wait, they just get to stay on the yacht for one night.
Everyone gets the first question right. Tom targets Gregg. Jenn gets Caryn. Ian gives Caryn a quick second hit. Caryn goes after Katie. Gregg gets Tom back and Katie eliminates Caryn.
Tom is the only one to get the second question right. He drops Ian's lamp for the first time. Someone has seen this Challenge before.
Everybody is correct in round three. Tom wisely spreads it around and he gets. Jenn takes it personally and drops Tom a second notch. Ian eliminates Tom. Well played, Tom. Gregg tells Katie not to pick him because, "I'll save you." He pulls Ian's second lever instead. Katie accepts his offer and sends Ian into the drink. So much for her Reward Alliance with Ian.
It's down to Gregg, Jenn and Katie. The next question: Which direction is Palau from the equator? Unfortunately no one picks east or west. Gregg and Katie correctly say north. The guys on the sideline remind Gregg about his promise to Kaite. He asks Jenn if she'll be really upset if he gets her. Jeff lets Gregg have it for asking Jenn's permission. Gregg decides it'd be better to betray Katie so down she goes. Katie gets him back.
True or false: Palau was the first country to issue an Elvis stamp. Gregg and Jenn know it's true. Thank ya. Thank ya very much. Jenn eliminates Katie so Gregg is forced to get Jenn. Each of them has one pull left.

Gregg, what were you thinking?! Oh. Right.

Gregg knows that coconut crabs can change colors after they eat, so he wins. But, surprise, he gets to bring someone with him. Jenn immediately starts jumping up and down. No pressure, right Gregg? Surprise, he chooses her.
But now an actual surprise. Jeff says Gregg gets to bring a third person. He selects Katie. Gregg apologizes to the others and says, "We'll pay you back." Tom laughs and replies, "No, we'll pay you back."
So while Tom and Ian were smartly knocking each other off in a meaningless Challenge, Gregg was reminding everyone he has an airtight alliance with Jenn. Then on top of it, he leaves his biggest competition on the island without him. The R4MPOC claims another victim.
Sure enough, Ian suggests they turn on Gregg. He sees isn't sure about Katie any more. Tom calls her "shady lady Katie." I like that. Tom and Caryn agree to make the move. Now they have to figure out how to avoid a tie.
As the winner and his guests receive massages, a strange man enters and starts rubbing on Gregg. It turns out to be his best friend…Greg. No word on the number of G's.
As they eat, Katie's brother-in-law and Jenn's sister appear. Hugs and tears abound.
Back at camp Tom and Ian talk about Pappy's Purple Rock. Why do they assume that's the tiebreaker? Remember the original rule was previous votes. They could break a tie any number of ways. But Tom and Ian assume their fate would be determined by chance if there's a tie. They decide it's worth the risk. You might say they have the stones to draw rocks.
Ian says Katie may join them against Gregg rather then drawing rocks, but they want to wait until the last minute to tell her. It's like taking "a bag of chips from a fat man," Ian says. That's not nice, Ian. Katie might not like chips.
The plan is for Caryn to act like she's next the go and for Tom and Ian to assure Gregg the alliance of five is still intact.

And the Oscar goes too…

The yachters also get the swim with some dolphins. Eh, just another day at the office for Ian.
They talk strategy over dinner. Gregg says they should be the final three, but they still want Caryn off next.
Day 32. The winners return and Tom is very sad when he sees the family members, because he knows his loved one is close, but not close enough.
Ian tells Katie's brother-in-law he'll look out for her. What's the deal there? Does he have some weird crush on her, or is this part of his act?
As Gregg says goodbye to Other Greg, he starts to cry! He says his dad died last year and he's really missing his mom. The extra G must stand for gentle.
Tom tells us, "That little trip they took may cost them big."
Day 33 brings the Second Chance Immunity Challenge. We have the very first net obstacle course, then a version of the sea star puzzle, then three of those nasty duck egg things, then a box tied with rope, and the guns. The last person will be eliminated after each task.
Caryn sits down after the nets. The three men are the first ones done with the puzzle and Katie is the last. Ian and Tom quickly eat the ducks, and Jenn beats Gregg! That's an upset. You go girl.
But then she's wasted in the knot segment. It's Tom vs. Ian on the gun. Remember, this is the one thing Tom wasn't good at.
Ian hits. Tom misses. Ian hits again. Tom misses again! Ian nails his third straight target and it's over. Two straight Immunities for the World's Skinniest Man!

Tom's Kryptonite

Back at Kamp Koror Caryn does her part. Tom says she's "in the Janu place." Ian says her performance is worthy of an Academy Award.
Tom and Ian tell Gregg that Caryn is still the target. Ian says, "It's going to be interesting how it plays out." Gregg says, "Interesting?" Oops. Ian starts mumbling something and Tom jumps in with, "It's always interesting." Yikes. They should take some lessons from Caryn.
Ian pulls Katie aside right before Tribal Council and springs their plan on her. He reminds her she could leave in a tiebreaker if she doesn't join them. Katie gets upset because they didn't include her on the decision-making. She also says Ian just wants her along so he can beat her. Does she really think she could beat any of them?
Tribal Council brings out Coby in a rainbow shirt. Jeff again asks Jenn what the others think about her and Gregg being a couple. She says they're just individuals in the game. Gregg says their bond isn't a secret but agrees it won't turn people against them.
Time to vote. Ian does write down Gregg and says, "It is time for the dark horse to ride off into the sunset."
The tally goes: Caryn, Caryn, Gregg, Gregg (and there's the uh-oh face), Gregg again and…Gregg is gone!

Hope that was a great massage.

Jenn is stunned and glares off into space. This is where we say…HAHAHAHAHA!
Next time on…Survivor: Katie confronts Caryn about her deal with Tom, then she yells at Ian and calls him a liar. Ian says, "You want me to step out? I mean, I'll do it! I'll do it!"
Now that's how you pull off an overthrow. No telling the victim. No running your mouth out in the open. Only tell the people who need to know and only tell them when they need to know it. Don't leave them any time to counterstrike. Somewhere Lex should be taking notes.
Now they just have to hope Ian doesn't throw it away over some bizarre emotional attachment to Katie. Yikes.
Getting the willies,
Scott
