The 9th installment of the Amazing Race is upon us and it's like they just went down a character casting list:

Hippies
Nerds
Shallow Young Girls (Dani and Dani. Yikes.)
Shallow Young Guys (Team Nipple Rings, aka "the Frat Boys")
Lifelong Male "Friends"
Sassy Latina Mom & Daughter (or, as the girl said, "Hot Tamales")
Old Folks
All-American Couple ("Ken & Barbie" as one team called them, and "MoJo" as they call themselves. Yech.)
All-American Black Couple
Loud Middle-Aged Sisters (the self-proclaimed "Glamazons")
And the obligatory Obnoxious Guy Named After A Body Of Water

That's right, the guy's name is Lake. Not Blake. Not Drake. Not even Swims Like Fish In Lake. Just Lake. And he's the front-runner for the Jonathan Memorial Jerk of a Husband Award.

The Old Folks seem really sweet but you are in very bad shape if you don't even know what the clue boxes look like. They'd probably still be on that bridge if they hadn't gotten help.

I love when one of the Detour tasks is so clearly more difficult than the other yet half the teams still choose it. Unless you work with engines on a regular basis, what makes you think you're going to be able to assemble a motorcycle? Especially if you're wearing matching pink leotards.

Why were the "Friends" referring to the sisters as "Frosties"? Was that a comment about their dyed hair? I guess I don't speak "Friend."

The Shallow Young Guys took the first leg and won $10,000 each. The Hippies were a close second followed by the Tamales and Nerds. Last place came down to the Glamazons and the "Friends," and the "Friends" genie power didn't come through and they went home.

The teams I'm rooting for in the early going: The Nerds are happy, they're hopelessly in love, and they have their own handshake. 3-for-3 in my book. The Hippies have matching red pants. Heck yes. The Tamales are funny too.

Even though I'm not a fan of two-hour premieres, this episode was entertaining. We've got weirdoes, we've got idiots, and we've got weirdo idiots. This Race will be a stereotypically good time!
