On November 14, Beth from Ontario wrote in and said, “I see by the TV Guide there is no Amazing Race listed for this week. Is that true?” That is correct. The Amazing Race wasn’t on last week because of some country music thing. Now pretend I’m a responsible Internet guy and I wrote that a week and a half ago.
So the Race was back after a week hiatus and I’m back too…for today anyway.
This week’s episode was in Utah. The fun twist was the teams had to tow big camper trailers, making for some interesting turning and parking. I’ve never driven one so I sure can’t talk. I probably would’ve jackknifed the thing at the first gas station.
The siblings are a strong team but they keep making silly mistakes. Perfect example was standing around reading the clue instead of taking the number for the helicopter ride. It could’ve cost them a lot more if Team Wally hadn’t been so far behind.
America’s Sweethearts from Florida chose to ridicule the entire state of Utah this week. Toward the end of the show they describe a portion of the landscape as “a pimple.”
Nancy writes and says, “I just wanted to make a comment on the ‘Christians’ in the race. They have the most unchristian behavior I've ever seen: Throwing apples while driving and laughing about it, asking if boobs are real, you stand by a garbage truck, ha ha ha. If these guys are what Christianity is about, I want nothing to do with it.” Yeah…I’ve been avoiding this one mainly because I’ve been hoping the issue would go away (either with the Weavers acting nicer or by them actually going away). But it keeps getting worse.
A couple things to keep in mind: 1) Their dad died unexpectedly. In hindsight maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to agree to be in a publicly stressful situation like this. 2) It’s an edited reality show. They’re the “bad guys” so every one of their bad moments will be shown while things other teams do may be edited out.
That said, you can’t excuse how they’ve been treating the people around them. I’m a Christian and I cringe every time one of them speaks. Just this week we had the boy yelling at a guy on a bike as they drove by and making fun of him. There’s never a need for that kind of stuff.
Nobody’s perfect, but when we make mistakes we should take responsibility for them instead of claiming innocence and blaming everyone but ourselves.
Of course, once again, I can’t talk. I have a web site devoted to making fun of people on TV. But I’ll never ask if your boobs are real.
So there were two turning points in the Race itself and we didn’t see one of them due to a “production error.” The sisters’ vehicle broke down and they had to get a replacement.
The other, bigger moment was Florida taking the wrong road and ending up on a winding mountain route. They just resigned themselves to coming in last. The best part was when they suddenly all had McDonald’s which means they decided to take a lunch break at a crucial point in the Race. I’m lovin’ it.
The siblings finally got their first place finish. Wally’s girls made a nice comeback and finished a close second. The sisters took third as there was no drama this week.
There was comedy however as the Weavers were actually upset that they weren’t eliminated. If Jeff Probst were hosting this show he would’ve snapped their torches in half and knocked the Big Macs out of their hands. But Phil’s a swell fella and he gives them a pep talk so they want to stay in the Race and they want to go for the win.
But do they want fries with that?
