Amazing Race 8: Episode 6

Eureka in Costa Rica!

The teams stayed in international territory but they again took a long bus ride, this time to Costa Rica.

We learned the Angry family doesn't like the Florida Weavers either. They're an anti-alliance.

The sisters had to beg for money and a local man gave them this masterpiece: "I don't have money. I have…love." I wonder if Lorisa would buy that one.

We started to see a crack in the dad-and-daughters' armor as they started some in-fighting. Judging from the preview this will become an even bigger issue.

Sure enough, the Angries proved their dislike for the Floridas by Yielding them. There's only one more Yield on the Race.

Why does everyone hate the Florida team? Maybe because they do things like spending the entire Yield making fun of the other team's pictures.

"Thank you for sleeping
with your mouth open, Carissa."

Perhaps I'm too hard on the Gaghans but here's what bugs me. I'm all for supporting your children and developing their self esteem through encouragement, but there's a point when you take it too far. Every little thing the girl did was like she just invented Pasteurization or something. "Thank you for running, Carissa," the dad kept saying. You're in a race! What else is she supposed to do? I was waiting for him to say something like, "Thank you for breathing, Carissa. The way you get your heart to pump that blood is incredible."

The Roadblock was finding a single red bean in an 800-pound bag of beans. Oh my. Mrs. Gag took so long they fell behind even the Yielded ones.

The Linz brothers rewarded their sister's bean success by saying she earned her own set of beans, if you know what they mean.

The Angry boys learned another life lesson when they were too wussy to keep up with their burly dad hauling bananas. Shut your mouth and show some respect, or he'll feed you to the monkeys.

Even without a short cut the Paolos won for the second straight leg. They were each given their choice of a big boy toy like a Jet Ski or ATV. Maybe they have some soft slow ones for the sons.

"Why am I such a pansy?"

The sibs were a close second and the daughters were a close third. The sisters overcame their bickering and lack of funds to finish a strong fourth.

We had some fake drama, but fifth place was the Floridians. Considering they were Yielded and got their van stuck, that's pretty impressive. It also means I really enjoyed the end.

It's like someone gave the show the Heimlich maneuver…

Gag me no more.
