Amazing Race 8: Episode 5

They left the country! Now that's Amazing.

I wondered if the Angry family kept their arguments for "private" moments like in the car but I guess not. At the airport one of the sisters told the older boy to be nice to his mom. Somebody's gotta say it.

The big moment was during the Detour when the first Fast Forward appeared. We then learned this was also the last Fast Forward, which made it a pretty big deal. Only the Angries and the Gags went for it.

I was pretty happy when the Gags had to sit and watch as the Angries went right in front of them to do the bungee jump. It was even better when yelling boy sucked it up and stepped off that crane. Nice screaming, D.

Other funny moments: Everyone having to sleep on the floor in that little building while they waited for the dock to open. The Gags' boat trying to go pick someone else up before dropping them off. Mom Gag tripping and falling into the back of a van. The daughters' bus "guide" using them for a ride to work.

Tee hee.

So the Paolos obviously came in first after the Fast Forward. The bird branch of the Detour proved to be the better choice as the Weavers (or, "the Florida team" as they're known on the Race) and the daughters went that route and finished second and third respectively.

Speaking of the Weavers, we got another reminder that many of the other teams just don't like them. It looks like we may have a full-scale alliance against them pretty soon.

Speaking of alliances, the siblings and all-female siblings worked together on the instrument challenge, which kept them in front of the Gags.

But then they ran into the baseball challenge. The sibs got done first and finished fourth overall. I couldn't believe it, but after Daddy Gag got his quick hit, the marathoners had come all the way back and passed up the sisters.

But it was a manly scream.

She must have been out there a lot longer after that because they went right to the put-on-all-your-clothes strategy and hoped for a non-elimination leg. Sure enough, that's what they got! And they got to keep all their clothes! They did have to give up their money and backpacks however.

So the Gags finish second-to-last for the second straight week. The Weavers have rebounded nicely from their craziness, and the daughters-and-dad continue to hold steady toward the front. The orange brothers continue to crack jokes, which is always appreciated.

We'll have to see how the Angries do with no more shortcuts. Could it be the family that bungees together, becomes nice together?

Probably not.
